The song is about remembering myself in my 20’s - going out, dancing, hoping I looked fly, but really feeling awkward and out of place. Checking my phone, waiting for someone who’s not showing up, wishing I was in my room where it’s a mess and there’s a painting of a woman on the wall, sleeping that I identify with - that is me. The end of the chorus is like a resolution of that feeling, like, I have better things to do and I won’t waste my time waiting for someone who's just going to leave me hanging. This song is like a snapshot of someone choosing themselves over the whims of that love interest who comes to your door to apologize with a bag of chips, over what is desirable, over what everyone else is doing. Any introverts looking for some kind of representation might have just found it.
